Treat Wrinkles and Facial Creases with a Simple, Safe Injectable Procedure for a Refreshed Appearance in Ramsey, New Jersey

Considering BOTOX®? The Skin & Laser Center of NJ has considerable history creating custom plans to help achieve smoother skin. For decades, physicians have been using BOTOX® to successfully treat wrinkles and facial creases caused by repetitive muscle movement. Due to its effectiveness, long history of success, and the simplicity of the treatment, BOTOX® has become one of the most popular medical cosmetic procedures performed in the United States and beyond. While that popularity largely stems from the fact that it is a quick, safe, and effective injectable treatment, it is best administered by a trained and qualified medical professional in order to achieve the highest quality results.

Finding BOTOX® injectors in New Jersey is easy. That doesn’t mean, however, that you should make your decision lightly. In other words, you shouldn’t just type “BOTOX® near me” and automatically go with the top result. There are plenty of medspas and other facilities that offer this popular wrinkle relaxer. At Skin & Laser Center of NJ, the medically trained professionals who administer your injections—all physicians or physician assistants—prioritize your health and safety while striving for an aesthetically pleasing outcome. You may have many choices, but there is no substitute for knowledge, experience, and training.

Q & A

Commonly Asked Questions

How Does BOTOX® Work?

BOTOX®—also known as botulinum toxin—prevents the body from properly sending nerve signals that cause certain muscles to contract. Over the years, your facial muscles contract hundreds of thousands of times, moving with every smile and frown. These repeated facial movements eventually lead to the development of fine lines that can deepen into wrinkles and creases. By reducing muscle activity, the wrinkles caused by these movements begin to relax, minimizing existing lines and creases while helping to prevent the formation of new ones.

There are several different areas of the body—including the face and neck—where fine lines caused by repetitive muscle contractions are most likely to appear. In the upper area of the face, this includes forehead lines, frown lines (also known as glabellar lines) that form between the eyebrows, and lines that form around the eyes (more commonly known as crow’s feet). The lower portion of the face includes “smokers’” lines as well as the jawline and neck.

While most of these fine lines tend to form as a result of making different facial expressions conveying an assortment of emotions, they sometimes have the unfortunate effect of communicating an angry or tired appearance. By relaxing the muscles that cause these lines to develop, you can enjoy a relaxed, youthful, refreshed appearance.

At Skin & Laser Center of NJ, we are proficient in utilizing BOTOX®  to help shape your face and profile in a variety of ways. For example, patients with “gummy smiles” caused by dynamic lips—where an unwanted amount of your gums are visible when you smile—can address these concerns with BOTOX® to reduce the upward movement of the lip. Additionally, a “lip flip” relies on BOTOX® injections to create a fuller, poutier lip without the use of fillers.

For patients interested in a nose lift without the actual surgery, BOTOX® injections at Skin & Laser Center of NJ can help reduce the appearance of a drooping nose tip. By relaxing the depressor septi nasi muscle, we can achieve the effect of a nonsurgical nose lift, though future treatments will be necessary to maintain these results.

We can also help patients achieve a slender, graceful neck and jaw with what is known as a “Nefertiti lift.” Just as BOTOX® can be used to lift the nose, it can also help create a more defined jawline, reduce wrinkles and fine lines around the neck, and reduce folds or sagging in the lower portion of the face. The overall effect is not unlike the famed beauty Queen Nefertiti: refreshed, graceful, and ageless.

You don’t have to wait for the fine lines to become etched in before starting regular injectable treatments to help minimize their impact. BOTOX® at Skin & Laser Center of NJ can help prevent the formation of future fine lines and creases while addressing existing concerns.

It’s important to note that BOTOX® is not an effective solution for wrinkles caused by sun damage, gravity, age, or volume loss. We have other solutions available to treat these cosmetic issues.

Prior to your BOTOX® session at Skin & Laser Center of NJ, you may be asked to avoid alcohol, coffee, aspirin, anti-inflammatory medications, waxing, tweezing, chemical peels, tanning, facials, or bleaching the treatment area to help minimize bruising. At the beginning of your appointment, your provider will evaluate your skin and discuss your aesthetic goals before deciding which areas of the face to treat.

Each BOTOX® session at Skin & Laser Center of NJ will likely require multiple injections, delivered by a very fine needle. Your particular treatment will be customized to your individual needs, taking into account your goals and overall skin health. This means that the areas treated and number of injections used per session will be modified to accommodate each patient. You may experience a slight pinching sensation when the medication is being administered, but the process is painless and does not require anesthesia. Your injector might recommend applying ice to the treatment area before and after treatment to minimize bruising. The entire process from start to finish should take less than an hour.

For patients interested in the positive impact of BOTOX® but looking for more subtle results, advanced BOTOX® injector Zinoviya Petryshyn, PA-C and Dr. Lieb are both highly experienced at delivering smaller doses. Whether you’re interested in big results or subtle improvements, we have the experience to deliver exactly what you’re looking for.

Following your BOTOX® treatment, there are several steps you can take to help achieve the best possible outcome. For the first four to eight hours following your injections, you should keep your head upright and avoid lying down flat. Avoid vigorous activity and tight headbands. Right after treatment, it’s important to avoid exposure to direct sunlight, blood thinners, or touching the area of the face where the injections were administered. Patients should utilize the muscles where the injections were applied to help the muscles absorb the medication.

The full results of your BOTOX® treatment at our New Jersey-based office will take three to 14 days to take full effect. Depending on the area being treated and amount of BOTOX® used, the effects generally last between three to four months. For some patients, the positive results might last between two and six months. In New Jersey, BOTOX® patients who want to maintain their refreshed appearance can schedule regular maintenance appointments with us. Patients with a history of BOTOX® treatment may start to require less frequent treatments as time goes on.

Medical professionals have identified a wide range of useful applications for BOTOX® patients in New Jersey and beyond. In 2004, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration approved the use of BOTOX® injections to address hyperhidrosis, also known as excessive sweating. Six years later, it was also approved to provide relief for patients suffering from migraines. That same year, BOTOX® was identified as a source of relief for people who suffer from upper limb spasticity—more commonly referred to as muscle spasms. The following year, in 2011, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration added urinary incontinence to the list of conditions that BOTOX® can help with. It was subsequently approved to treat overactive bladders in 2013. Over the course of the following decade, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration also expanded the list of muscle groups that could be treated for spasticity through BOTOX® injections.

We do not offer all of these options for treatment with BOTOX® at our New Jersey office, but we share this information here so you can see how widely used and safe the injectable is.

The medically trained and highly experienced professionals at Skin & Laser Center of NJ can utilize BOTOX® injections in the trapezius (shoulders) to help block nerve signals that cause muscle stiffness resulting in pain and poor posture. We can also help address excessive scalp sweating resulting in damp hair and general discomfort by treating the scalp. BOTOX® has many useful applications both cosmetic and medical, and we are proud of the many ways we can utilize this revolutionary treatment to improve our patients’ lives.

While BOTOX® effectively treats fine lines and wrinkles that appear around the face, neck, and chin, there are several other procedures and treatments that can complement the wrinkle-relaxing injectable. Given that it can be administered in mere minutes, patients can maximize their outcome—and time—with more procedures, including dermal fillers like JUVÉDERM®, double chin-reducing Kybella®, fat-freezing CoolSculpting®, and various laser treatments.

Dermal fillers like JUVÉDERM® add volume to facial tissue and are particularly popular for areas of the face including the lips, cheeks, chin, smile lines, creases beneath the eyes, and the jawline. CoolSculpting® targets fat cells on the body, including the abdomen, love handles, thighs, and upper arms. If you’re looking for a holistic approach to achieving a more rejuvenated appearance, it’s worth asking the medical and cosmetic professionals at Skin & Laser Center of NJ about which treatments will complement your BOTOX® injections to help reach your aesthetic goals.
