When it comes to addressing the many unwanted signs of acne, there are several treatment choices available. Many of these procedures and medications are effective at mitigating existing problems, but laser acne treatment at New Jersey’s Skin & Laser Center of NJ focuses on targeting the cause: the bacteria and oil glands that cause acne breakouts in the first place.
In addition to addressing short-term signs of acne—like inflammation and pustules—laser acne treatment can also help with long-term effects like scarring by improving the overall tone and texture of your skin. With their high rates of success and short appointment times, laser acne treatments are an increasingly popular method of addressing acne among patients of all ages.

Prior to your laser treatment, you may be asked to take certain steps, such as avoiding tanning or direct sun exposure, avoiding medications that cause sun or light sensitivity, and remaining hydrated. Using broad-spectrum sunscreen is always a good idea to protect your skin, but is especially important in the weeks prior to laser acne treatment.
Your provider will begin your appointment by cleaning your skin. After this first step, a prescription gel may be applied to the treatment areas. You’ll be asked to wait between 30 and 120 minutes before the solution is removed with saline. During this time, you can read, watch a show on an iPad, or catch up on emails. After the solution has been wiped away, you will be given goggles to protect your eyes. The treated skin is then exposed to light. Some patients report a slight burning or stinging sensation during this step, but the experience is generally well tolerated.
After a laser light acne treatment at Skin & Laser Center of NJ, you may experience redness, swelling, scabbing, crusting, inflammation, and peeling in the treatment area, but these effects will usually fade within a few hours to days. Most patients require multiple treatments to achieve the best possible results, and many patients also benefit from other acne treatments, such as medication. Laser treatment won’t clear 100 percent of a patient’s acne, but after multiple treatment sessions, many patients experience improvement of almost 80 percent. As part of a broader treatment plan that includes a home skincare routine, laser acne treatment at Skin & Laser Center of NJ can help you achieve smoother, clearer skin.
