Treatments with this pulsed dye laser can be used to address a broad list of conditions and concerns, including broken blood vessels and capillaries, redness caused by rosacea, port-wine stains (red birthmarks), venous lakes, red stretch marks, red scars, warts, bruises, cherry angiomas, sun damage, and acne. V-Beam Perfecta® at New Jersey’s Skin & Laser Center of NJ targets hemoglobin without damaging the surrounding skin. These laser treatments are safe, effective, and can typically be performed in less than 30 minutes.
V-Beam Perfecta® laser treatments function by sending a pulsed dye laser at a wavelength of 595nm through the outermost layers of skin. Dermatologists have been using this type of laser treatment to mitigate skin concerns like port-wine stains for decades, and the list of concerns this treatment can address continues to expand. The skincare team at Skin & Laser Center of NJ is happy to discuss how V-Beam laser treatments can help you on your quest to achieve healthy, beautiful skin.

At the beginning of your V-Beam Perfecta® treatment, your provider will review your treatment plan, examine your skin, and go over your medical history. You will then be provided with a pair of goggles to protect your eyes from the laser light. The handpiece of the laser will be placed over your skin, and you can expect to experience a cold and hot sensation, with a feeling similar to a rubber band snapping. Depending on the number and size of treatment areas, this process may take anywhere from a few minutes up to half an hour.
After the V-Beam treatment, your provider may apply ice or a calming cream to the area. The treated skin will appear pink. In the case of port-wine stains, venous lakes, stretch marks, and scars, there will be dark bruising. Any and all of these effects should resolve within a few days.
The number of V-Beam Perfecta® treatments you require to achieve optimal results will depend on the condition being treated. For specific veins or broken blood vessels on the face, usually one to two treatments are recommended. For overall redness of the face, three to five treatments may be recommended, with yearly maintenance thereafter. Patients with rosacea can expect a 50 percent to 75 percent improvement. Port-wine stains or blood vessel birthmarks require five to eight treatments depending on the size of the lesion and age of the patient. During your initial consultation, your provider will discuss how many treatments to expect.
After your V-Beam Perfecta® laser treatment, your skin may be pink or bruised, depending on the condition being addressed. It’s normal for the treatment area to be puffy or swollen. Your provider will give you detailed aftercare instructions to help ensure that your skin heals quickly.
Gently cleansing and moisturizing the skin in the days after your appointment can be helpful. Applying sunscreen with a high SPF every day is essential to prevent the treatment area from tanning or burning, which can cause damage and changes to the appearance of the skin.
