Small, red bumps on your skin go by many names, including cherry angiomas, blood blisters, red moles, senile angiomas, and Campbell de Morgan spots. They are extremely common, affecting half of adults over the age of 30 and 75 percent of adults above the age of 75. When it comes to cherry angiomas, New Jersey’s Skin & Laser Center of NJ explains that the growths are made up of blood vessels and typically appear on the torso, arms, and legs—though they can appear anywhere. The lesions are usually round, roughly 2 mm to 4 mm in size, and light to dark red in color. Fortunately, cherry angiomas are painless, harmless, and noncancerous. Skin growths that bleed or change appearance, however, could be indicative of skin cancer and should be examined by a dermatologist.
Cherry angiomas have multiple causes, but factors that may increase your odds of developing them include age, pregnancy, genetics, exposure to sunlight, and radiation therapy. The growths do not disappear on their own, and while some patients aren’t bothered by their appearance, others are uncomfortable about the growths and prefer to have them removed. Skin & Laser Center of NJ offers several cherry angioma removal options for patients who dislike the development of these growths. These removal methods are fast, effective, and safe.

There are three primary removal methods offered by Skin & Laser Center of NJ. These are:
This is the most common method of treating cherry angiomas. The strategy is both fast and relatively painless. A concentrated beam of light delivers an intense heat that destroys the cherry angioma, and the entire process generally takes 10 to 20 minutes, depending on how many lesions are present. While some patients require just a single session, others need two or three treatments to fully remove the growths.
This extremely minor surgical procedure involves an electrocautery pen delivering high-voltage, low-current electricity into the growth. The entire process takes a few minutes and is performed with the patient under local anesthesia. This method effectively removes the growth with minimal scarring in the tissue left behind.
This is an extremely common surgical procedure that involves using a scalpel to shave away the top layer of skin, removing the cherry angioma with it. This procedure is performed under local anesthesia.
