Contact Dermatitis

This is an extremely common skin condition that presents as an itchy rash with possible inflammation, redness, scaling, burning, stinging, fluid-filled blisters, and oozing blisters. Contact dermatitis occurs when skin comes into contact with a specific irritant such as certain plants or chemicals. Because of this, the providers at Skin & Laser Center of NJ begin treatment by helping patients to identify the cause of the irritant. From there, we can prescribe medications to help alleviate itching and other symptoms.

Poison Ivy

Poison ivy is a plant that produces an oil called urushiol. While some people are immune to urushiol, the vast majority the population—more than 80 percent—develops uncomfortable symptoms after coming into contact with the oil. This includes itchy skin, redness or red streaks, swelling, blisters, and crusting. The reaction typically takes between 12 and 72 hours to develop. Hives

Hives have several potential triggers, including allergies, infection, and illness. The result is welts on the skin that can manifest in different ways for different people, potentially including itching, swollen skin, pink or red bumps and lesions, and stinging. The reaction can occur anywhere on the body, and though hives are not a significant medical concern, they can cause discomfort to the point that many patients choose to pursue treatment.
