A scar is evidence of our body’s effort to heal itself after being injured. Each scar is unique and may be flat, raised, sunken, pink, red, brown, or white. While there’s nothing inherently wrong with scars—they are evidence of the skin’s ability to heal—they are often unfortunate reminders of traumatic events. Whether it’s an acne scar, burn scar, scar resulting from an injury, surgical scar, or scar caused by an infection, laser scar treatment at New Jersey’s Skin & Laser Center of NJ can help dramatically minimize the appearance of the mark.
Laser scar treatments with Vbeam Perfecta® or CO2RE® are nonsurgical treatments that deliver thermal energy to the skin’s surface, prompting the skin to produce more collagen and elastin fibers as a result. As the skin regenerates, the overall texture and tone naturally improve, resulting in smoother skin with less visible scarring. The team at Skin & Laser Center of NJ is ready to guide you on your journey to healing, replacing your unwanted scar with healthier skin and happier memories.

The best time to discuss laser scar treatment with the team at Skin & Laser Center of NJ is as early as possible. If you have a surgery scheduled that you know is going to cause a scar or were recently in an accident that caused a significant wound, discussing your scar with a skin-focused professional before or right after the scar forms in order to develop a treatment plan is the best way to ensure the most positive outcome possible.
At the beginning of your laser scar treatment, your provider will furnish you with protective glasses to shield your eyes from the powerful light. You will be comfortably seated or reclined during the session. The Vbeam Perfecta® or CO2RE® laser will be calibrated to your unique skin and scar. Your provider will place the handpiece against your skin, emitting brief bursts of energy followed by a cooling spray. The sensation is similar to that of a rubber band snapping against your skin or a pulse of heat, which might be startling, but is usually tolerable. If you’re concerned about discomfort, you can request a topical anesthetic to help reduce any sensation. The entire laser scar treatment process typically takes less than half an hour, though the exact amount of time depends on the size and location of the scar.
Following your laser scar treatment session at Skin & Laser Center of NJ, you may experience redness, swelling, itching, crusting, or irritation at the treatment site. These effects are usually mild and resolve within a few days to a week. In the days right after your treatment, it’s important to follow your provider’s aftercare instructions. These may include avoiding direct sun exposure, wearing sunscreen with a high SPF, and keeping the area clean and moisturized. Most patients require multiple laser scar treatments to achieve the best possible results, with the average patient requiring four to six sessions.
